34 - DEEP SURVIVAL

Acceptance of the possible bad news is the first step towards meaningful life in spite of it. There are a few different roads to acceptance and a few different ways it can look when you get there – some better than others.

Denial is a clever Dragon’s weapon and he means to use in one form or another in every segment of the lap to take you out of the running. Just when you think you have beaten it, it can come at you again masquerading in a new disguise, usually of your own creation or occasionally from a “friend”. Only critical thinking coupled with the willingness to accept the truth, whatever it might be, will expose how you are fooling yourself. Be ever alert for denial’s reappearance and be prepared to walk away again.

In DEEP SURVIVAL, Gonzalez describes heroes who have survived extraordinary peril. He concludes that, "survival is adaption, and adaption is change, but it is change based upon a true reading of the environment” not based on what is hoped for, but what is, not based on what is predicted, but what is!  Only rapid acceptance of what is makes it possible to conquer any situation whether it’s in the cancer center or in the open ocean. So what follows are common examples of the delusions that sneak into our thinking that can compromise both optimal treatment and a victorious lap. Portraits of acceptance with obstacles that were hurdled are included.
