Windrunners Blog

In this blog and the accompanying book Cancer's Windrunners, I want to share with you what I have learned from a group of amazing patients who journeyed with God through their cancers. They seemed to live lives of more purpose, meaning and joy — and often longer than I ever expected. Whatever was going on with them I wanted — and wanted to pass on to my other patients. HERE IT IS IN BLOG FORM.

For opportunities of a secular journey in a life with cancer, see the Bell Lap Blog.

BV10: FOURTH STEP TOWARD VICTORY =WALK

It is great to get an answer to our prayers but sometimes the answer is not what we expect or even want. When the answer is hard or risky we wonder if it is really from God --- and sort of hope it isn't. So how do we find out?

We have to WALK INTO the answer we perceive - into GOD'S LEADING. And then we must keep listening for redirection. I am sure God is thrilled that we are trying to follow HIs lead even if we get it wrong. In which case He will redirect us with a whisper, a shout, a circumstance,or a closed door.

CORONA VIRUS - HOW TO TRIUMPH OVER IT

The pandemic of fear that Covid 19 has created is identical to that created by the words "you have got CANCER".  Both take a person that is getting by in life - and even getting by very well and knocks most off their feet. Both Covid and Cancer take a larger tole on the lives we lead than the bodies we live in. More lives are polluted , relationships soured, careers upended, and heath compromised by the fear than by the actual virus or cancer .

BV11: FIFTH STEP TO SUSTAIN VICTORY -REMEMBER

Spiritual Amnesia depletes PEE and is the greatest obstacle to sustained victory over fear and anxiety. Eugene Petersen points out that "A Christian with a defective memory has to start everything from scratch and spend far too much time backtracking, repairing and starting over". The problem is that we all have defective memories and they naturally get worse with age.

BV14 - TRIUMPH OVER TROUBLE

In the words of Jesus, Paul, James, John, Nahum and whoever wrote Job "In this world you will have trouble" and "man is born to trouble". It is a frequent theme in scripture. Yet every mention of it is coupled with promises of an astonishing peace that is possible in spite of it. A triumph.
